Mid-term history exam Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Mid-term history test - Essay Example He addressed Popeââ¬â¢s authority likewise, by saying that, ââ¬Å"pope â⬠¦cannot transmit any punishments other than those which he has forced either by his own power or by that of the Canons (Luther, 5). With these words and comparable contentions in his theories, Luther was scrutinizing the idea of legitimacy ââ¬Å"held by Catholic Churchâ⬠and was challenging ââ¬Å" those evangelists of indulgencesâ⬠¦ who state that by the popeââ¬â¢s guilty pleasures a man is liberated from each punishment, and savedâ⬠(Luther, 21). Despite the fact that likely Martin Luther had no clue with regards to what he had begun, his analysis and rebel against the guilty pleasures were sharp and centered. Students of history have seen that however Martin Luther had expected ââ¬Å"his propositions to incite insightful discussion, â⬠¦(he) couldn't have foreseen the emotional open responseâ⬠(McNeese, 5). The Roman Catholic Church was back then, truly ââ¬Å"selling indulg encesâ⬠, which were ââ¬Å"traditionally conceded to somebody when the individual in question admitted a sinâ⬠(McNeese, 4). It was the point at which the heathen was playing out an atonement ââ¬Å"to get forgivenessâ⬠, that the Church needed to give an extravagance (McNeese, 4). This is clarified as ââ¬Å"an demonstration of devotion, to help give total absolution and to demonstrate that the miscreant was, without a doubt, sorry for having done wrongâ⬠(McNeese, 4). Be that as it may, ââ¬Å"by the Middle Ages, the teaching of guilty pleasures permitted individuals to pay cash (to the congregation) as opposed to a devout actâ⬠(McNeese, 4). Martin Luther was basically rebelling against this offer of extravagances. Besides, by the fifteenth century, Pope Sixtus IV professed to have the ability to discharge the spirits of the dead from the retribution they were encountering in Purgatoryâ⬠(McNeese, 4). This provoked individuals to ââ¬Å"buy an extrava gance to help speed up a perished cherished oneââ¬â¢s discharge from Purgatoryâ⬠(McNeese, 4). It was against this ââ¬Å"profiteeringâ⬠of the congregation from the guilty pleasures that Martin Luther for the most part distributed his 95 Theses. At the point when it was distributed, the congregation needed him to ââ¬Å"confess his wrongâ⬠doing, he didn't respect that, and the pope banished him (McNeese, 5). Not long after these turns of events, Luther built up his own religious philosophy and it represented ââ¬Å"salvation through confidence in God as opposed to through services and great worksâ⬠(McNeese, 6). He discredited ministry additionally (McNeese, 6). Luther likewise condemned the Popes who were enjoying ââ¬Å"extravagance and luxuryâ⬠(McNeese, 4). Luther accepted religion to be an individual thing for every single person when he stated, ââ¬Å"every genuinely humble Christian has a privilege to full abatement of punishment and blame, even without letters of pardonâ⬠(Luther, 36). Bit by bit, the 95 postulations of Martin Luther turned into the flash that started the fire of protestant transformation (McNeese, 6). At a finish purpose of this strict development, Lutheranism turned into the official religion for some German states and Sweden (McNeese, 7). Calvin created Lutherââ¬â¢s thoughts and spread them to Switzerland, France, Scotland and England (McNeese, 7). Britain, grasped Protestantism, wholeheartedly. Later in England, a counter-reconstruction was driven by Catholic Church, which was just in part effective (McNeese, 9). Be that as it may, Luther lamented his proclaiming, when transformation transformed into a peasantsââ¬â¢ unrest in Germany (McNeese, 7). More slaughter and threats followed all through the reorganization and the

Recommendations of Logistics and Supply Chain Management
Question: Examine about the Recommendations of Logistics and Supply Chain Management. Answer: Presentation: Set up in 1916, Boeing turned into a market chief in the field of structuring airplanes. It has been in the matter of offering business and load rockets, airplanes comprehensive of military ones alongside security and frameworks. In the United States Boeing is the biggest cross-fringe exporter and stands second in the fragment of guard contractual workers on the planet. Boeing has been on the way of development since 1969 and a portion of its airplanes as 737, 747-800, 777, 767 and 787 are genuinely known names in the airplane business. In the current situation, Boeings business airplane is among the biggest business creating unit, delivering around 52 billion dollars as income (Kotha and Srikanth 2013). The loads of Boeing are being exchanged the New York stock trade under the image BA. It faces a solid rivalry from Airbus yet at the same time has kept up enough self-control to think of airplanes that are sublime in structures alongside the necessary solace level so customers just a s purchasers have nothing to gripe as well (Petrick 2014). Boeings Marketplace: There is a low passage danger as the expenses of capital are high in the section of business fly pitch. New participants need reinforcements of government for this immense expense. If there should arise an occurrence of exacting control on the worth chain, quality is kept up in a high way with costs being respectably low. This helps organizations like Boeing and Airbus in diverting expenses and imparting the cost to the providers. There are a lot of substitutes in the airplane making industry as well. ATR and EB have thought of midrange airplanes for business flying. Boeing and Airbus have made duopoly in business stream showcase having same sort of value great items. Both have guest plans that ranges from 180 to 600 seats. It is a duopoly showcase and both Boeing and Airbus have gone into a tag of war on things like valuing, abilities and planning of their airplanes. Both the organizations have been liable for creating more current models which can conceal significant distances and are very eco-friendly in nature. Boeings requirement for 787: In 1994, Boeing settled on its most significant choice of building the universes greatest business traveler fly, where it send its creators back to this plan's beginning point for upgrading its 747 model so as to fly more travelers. The 747-8 was intended to convey 468 travelers when contrasted with Airbus A380s 525 travelers. Both these business flights were almost on the same wavelength when it came down to fuel investment funds and cost related issues (Sodhi and Tang 2012). Two significant players, Boeing and Airbus that have been reining this section throughout the years now in a market that is tremendously duopoly with serious rivalry appeared from both the gatherings so as to pick up the biggest piece of the pie (Wisner, Tan and Leong 2014). Enormous planes have consistently functioned admirably for the center framework yet the fate of flying relies upon the point-to-point structure for reasons like traveler comfort, packed traffic controls and deferrals. Such reasons prompted the introduction of Boeings 787. The Boeing 787 proceeded to turn into the most eco-friendly fly the world has ever observed with the utilization of the most recent materials. 787 have the ability of hefting around 330 travelers over a separation of 8500 miles, significantly more than what the A380 or 747 does (Gudmundsson 2015). The eco-friendliness of this gigantic saw a lift of 25-30% and it is more prominent than some other fly in its classification. The lodge pressurization expanded to 8000 feet from a small 6000 feet, making the flight progressively pleasurable and the airplane stayed as quick as the A380 or 747 (www.boeing.com 2016). 787 were made to create an incentive for the Airline business. Boeings International Supply Chain: Boeings thought of accelerating the development of 787 while diminishing its monetary introduction prompted another method of seeing at its gracefully chain alternatives. As per Norris (2013), activities were excellent as Boeing set out on a track of building an aircraft which would be not the same as the more seasoned models and simultaneously creative and customer agreeable. Improvements in purchaser comfort and improving skill was the prime factor in the plan of Boeing. In the previous years Boeing needed to depend on many providers for furnishing it with parts and courses of action for the plane, which was then amassed by Boeing itself in the office gave at Everett Washington Assembly (Slayton and Spinardi 2016). Boeings plan was to thought of another flexibly chain and get together business as usual for its 787 fly. The general thought of Boeing was to distribute the Tier 1 providers more sway to diagram and structure the significant segments of 787. The segments would be powerful patterns of the 787 fly necessary for electronic cabling, inward dividers, seat and control. The activity of the Tier 1 providers is to gather the areas of parts provided by Tier 2 providers before the 787s pre amassed segment gets dispatched (www.boeing.com 2016). Those completely collected areas of 787 were flown in once again from its worldwide accomplices to the Everett base on an uncommonly structured payload 747-8. Both delivery and collecting got down to only 6-7 days and furthermore decreased the execution and formative expense by 7-8 billion dollars (West 2013). Boeings budgetary hazard additionally got decreased through contribution the underlying expense of gathering the areas to the Tier benefactors. Boeing impacted its all-encompassing gracefully chain and joined forces the motorized assets as a serious improvement in lessening cost through building up an opportunity to-showcase. The Boeing saw it the first run through in quite a while History where worldwide accomplices created the main part of a plane. Boeing thought of certain methodologies for accomplishing the best outcomes: - Establishing the model of shared hazard among Boeing and its gracefully accomplices. - Synchronizing the flexibly, request and data identified with stock over the gracefully accomplices. - Moving to the accomplice drove assembling and manufacture model for the 787 Dreamliner. - Investing in perceivability devices of coordinations and explicit vehicle device for moving enormous subassemblies over the world. The structure of 787 saw a significant move in the gracefully chain of Boeing 787. Boeing has around 140 distinct providers situated in different pieces of the world having diverse time regions which required it putting a flexibly chain the executives programming framework for conveying plans, needs of gracefully, and transportation occasions. 1 providers late conveyance could have imperiled the entire amassing and building process. Distinction between re-appropriating of Boeing 787 and its prior airplanes: Segment Prior Aircraft 787 Dreamliner Sourcing Type 35% 45% is being re-appropriated 75% is re-appropriated Provider connections Temporary worker Vital Partner Provider Role Parts are being delivered Creating and delivering 787 segments # of Suppliers Thousands 40-50 Tier 1 accomplices Agreements Fixed cost with delay Punishment forced Hazard sharing model Get together 30-90 days 3 days Source: (Shenhar et al. 2016) Boeings Problems in Outsourcing: Throughout the years Boeing has been creating designing and get together groups, tooling masters and certain different offices in taking care of the mind boggling method of building airplanes with parts which is more than millions. In any case, Boeing had the capacity of completing things, however expensive, yet it had some fantastic laborers in its kitty to accomplish those targets. Boeing utilized the help of an outside contractual worker on occasion for holding down the expenses. It so happen that, when 747 was being used, just 5% of the pieces of the plane were re-appropriated. The period of 777 saw this number get expanded after some time to 30%. A solid bond, a decent association with providers is work throughout the years. The outline structures and designing was done at the home office of Boeing and parts were made to be redistributed supplier to those arrangements (Tang and Zimmerman 2013). According to Shenhar et al. (2016), the in-house collecting industrial facility of Bo eing 747 saw parts being brought back where they were put under oversight and contrasted with the first plans. On the off chance that any mistake happened from providers part, it was wedged before it got amassed into the stream. Rivalry has consistently been of the furious level with Airbus developing as a contender as well as a genuine danger that hoped to clear off Boeing. This savage rivalry saw aircrafts reducing down expenses and benefits decreasing. Every single carrier organization haggled with both the Boeing and Airbus to cut the edges. Boeings thought of building a 787 Dreamliner was more observed as an example of significant worth for its buyers, conveyance speed and proportions of cost cutting. Redistributing was the main way that Boeing thought of as a likely answer for both (Schwartz and Busby 2014). The redistributing of 787 as thought by Boeing was decentralized and worldwide, where 70% of its parts would be re-appropriated (Nolan 2012). Boeing went into contracts with Tier providers, yet issues developed when a portion of those providers of 787 were not conveying parts on schedule. Certain providers were worried with the specialized prerequisites and came up short on certain degree of mastery in making certain parts. According to the Boeing contract, the organization chose to assist the providers with issues having contracts (Qazi et al. 2015). One of the significant providers of Boeing didn't have a division of designing at the time it went into the agreement, the circumstance was taken care of with Boeing calling its in-house architects to help the contracted providers in fixing costs to the detriment of Boeing (Denning 2013). This issue became huge and it prompted Boeing purchasing out agreements and moving parts in-house at a faltering

Words and word studies Essay Example for Free
Words and word contemplates Essay Do a word concentrate on the Hebrew word Bara ('make') as it is utilized in the entire book of Genesis. Does the word consistently allude to 'creation out of/utilizing nothing'? In the pursuit of the Hebrew expression ââ¬ËBaraââ¬â¢ in the aggregate of the book of Genesis, there were eight specific examples that the term made (Hebrew Bara) was referenced. More often than not when the term made was utilized, the author is inferring about how God attempted the assignment of making by utilizing nothing specifically put something aside for his authentic forces to make things from nothing. In any case, in Genesis 6:7 the author appeared to have implied about how God made man from earth when it demonstrated that And the LORD stated, I will decimate man whom I have made from the substance of the earth. The term face of the earth alludes to the dirt that covers the land territory of the planet. Here, perusers are slanted to believe that man was produced using residue or soil (hence the conviction that when the body of a man kicks the bucket, it comes back to unique structure dust since it will become negligible residue once the procedure of deterioration is finished). Can the word mean this in Genesis 1:1? Indeed, the utilization of the term ââ¬ËBaraââ¬â¢ or make in the main refrain of the principal part of Genesis alludes to the presentation of God of his capacity to deliver material and unmistakable things without utilizing different things existing as of now so the procedure of creation is attempted. While talking about the capacity of God to make, Christian strict principles have it that God makes from nothing because of his outright force that can't be clarified by the science and rationale of man, therefore making Christianity a religion depended on trust alone in any event, when logical or exact clarification isn't accessible (case of that is the making of the world, which numerous researchers estimated to have begun from a movement happening from something surviving as of now, which is as yet agitated even up to now). Presently gaze upward Isa. 45:18 and locate the Hebrew words behind Gods innovative movement in that refrain. Look into these words (there are two) in the Hebrew word reference you are utilizing, and afterward discover any event of them in the entire book of Genesis In Isaiah, three different structures like make is discovered; the term framed (yatsar), made (asah) and built up (kuwn). The term framed was referenced multiple times in the book of Genesis in the stanzas seven, eight and 19 of the second section in the book, alluding to his shaping of man and the monsters that meandered the earth. The term made or make was discovered all the more frequently in the book of Genesis, almost present in the entirety of the parts of the book, by and large on the grounds that asah is a crude root alongside kuwn, which was referenced in 41:32, 43:16 and 43:25 of the book of Genesis. Do both of these words allude to 'creation out of/utilizing nothing'? If not, do the creators of Genesis and Isaiah have distinctive religious philosophy? Like what was referenced before in the paper, not the entirety of the terms that relate to Godââ¬â¢s imaginative action focuses to the possibility that God didn't utilize some other thing to help him in his creation; there were occasions like the formation of man and lady wherein God utilized earth to make man and utilized manââ¬â¢s ribs to make a lady, references to the utilization of apparatuses of God during specific occasions of his inventive procedure which doesn't diminish the capacity of Godââ¬â¢s power for creation (I. e.God can make man and lady even without the utilization of earth and the manââ¬â¢s ribs). However, was a fundamental demonstration since the creation and the imageries that encompass it has a significant socio-strict implications in the general religious philosophy, conviction and practices of the early Christianity right to the more futuristic type of the confidence. 2) Do word concentrate on the term 'unmarried' in I Cor. 7 The term Unmarried, or the Hebrew agamos is found in the seventh section of the main letter of St. Paul to the Corinthians. Apparently ââ¬Ëgamosââ¬â¢ is the root word that is enhanced by a prefix a that implies cynicism (hence agamos for unmarried, the negative form of wedded, which is certain). As the English interpretation infers, this term is utilized as reference during the hour of St. Paul for people who is still without a lawful spouse or husband and has not yet experienced the custom of marriage. Attempt and utilize the setting to characterize what 'unmarried can mean â⬠During the hour of St.Paul when he kept in touch with the Corinthians, the overarching practice is to take a legitimately married spouse or wife, predictable with existing laws and strict practices. This doesn't ensure anyway that individuals during those occasions were not powerless or defenseless to the enticements of extra conjugal issues, and hence, St. Paul concentrates his conversation on marriage and sex with regards to what is admissible according to god through the acknowledged acts of the Catholic religion. The term unmarried alludes to an individual who is without an accomplice, and every unmarried individual are energized by St. Paul to go without unlawful and no-no types of sex from others â⬠may they be hitched to others or likewise unmarried. Unmarried as a social ID is saved for the individuals who are not ââ¬Ëmarriedââ¬â¢, and by wedded one alludes to the realization and culmination of the ceremonies of marriage of association of two individuals. Does I Cor. 7 take into account remarriage after separation or not? â⬠Divorce is a training that is restricted in the Roman Catholic conviction and rehearses, and on the grounds that it isn't permitted, so is remarrying in the wake of leaving oneââ¬â¢s accomplice whom God participated in the ceremony of marriage. St. Paul talks about this in I Corinthian 7: 11-12, saying that And unto the wedded I order, [yet] not I, however the Lord, Let not the spouse withdraw from [her] husband: But and on the off chance that she leave, let her stay unmarried, or be accommodated to [her] husband: and let not the husband set aside [his] wife. There is a sign in Chapter 7 of the principal letter of Paul to the Corinthians about remarrying for the individuals who are as of now bereaved. In I Corinthians 7:8-9, it says that I state along these lines to the unmarried and widows, It is beneficial for them on the off chance that they stand even as I. Be that as it may, in the event that they can't contain, let them wed: for it is smarter to wed than to consume. Here St. Paul tells the unmarried and the widows that it is okay for them to remarry, urging them to remarry as opposed to participating in sexual acts that isn't permitted in Christian teaching that might be the purpose behind the consuming of their spirits in Hell. Essay Sample on Social Alienation
The problem of alienation is one of those scientific problems that constantly accompany humanity. Moreover, this problem is particularly relevant in our time, when fundamental sociocultural transformations are taking place in society, and the lives of many people are rapidly changing and moving them to different poles of social existence. Such a philosophical category as alienation is widely used in other scientific fields, for example, in sociology, psychology, criminology, law. The problem of human alienation was covered by many philosophers of various countries and eras. The relevance of the study is determined by the tendency of growth of negative consequences of alienation deviant behavior, deterioration of social health, political apathy and loss of confidence in public institutions, the impossibility of realizing oneââ¬â¢s own creative potential. In this article, we will show you under what angles you can analyze the phenomenon of social alienation, and give an example of an essay on this topic. The Interpretation of the Phenomenon of Social Alienation Considering this question, it is worth saying that in the history of understanding the phenomenon of social alienation, there is a psychological and mathematical point of view. Supporters of the first of them consider social alienation to be an eternal and unavoidable phenomenon, an inevitable evil arising from the social and psychological nature of man. Proponents of the second theory speak of alienation as a transient social phenomenon that is rooted in the nature of social relations. For the first time, the process of spiritual alienation (as an objectification) was considered by G. Hegel in his concept of ââ¬Å"absolute spiritâ⬠. In turn, Karl Marx developed a sociological interpretation of alienation. He derived it from the results of the distribution of labor, private property, and exploitation. He singled out the following types of alienation from Working conditions Tools (means of production), Products of labor, The generic essence of man, A person and society generally, Nature, etc. In capitalist production, alienation in the labor sphere causes all other forms of alienation (into politics, law, religion, science, art, etc.). Overcoming political alienation, according to Karl Marx, is possible if the material and economic alienation are eliminated. Alienation can be overcome as a result of the proletarian revolution. 5 Additional Sources on the Topic A Theoretical Overview of Alienation, 1997 Alienation as a Social Science Concept, 1973 Brief History and Main Theories of Alienation, 2013 Alienation as a Critical Concept, 2011 How Marxââ¬â¢s Concept of Alienation Have Impacted Our Life, 2015 The Consequences of Social Alienation Alienation has a number of adverse effects in psychological, physiological, economic, and political aspects. The psychophysiological consequences of alienation are due to the influence of negative emotions on human health. This leads to mental disorders, and then the physiological functions of the body. The economic consequences of alienation are associated with a weakening of the motivation for productive and quality work. It is difficult to rely on the creativity of employees who are disposed of. With modern technology and organization of production, this will inevitably affect the economic performance of the enterprise. The political consequences of alienation are manifested in the instability of social relations, disruption of contacts between various groups of the population, and the intensification of extremism. 3 Additional Sources on the Topic The Alienation of the Individual from Society, 1983 The Effects of Work Alienation and Policy Alienation, 2015 Drivers and Outcomes of Work Alienation, 2015 The Subject of Social Alienation: Who Is Most Prone to? Scientists have come to the conclusion that alienation can be death-threatening. Regardless of the heart health indicators, the social alienation can increase the risk of death by 50%, and, in some cases, by 90%. To be socially alone means to be more aggressive, to have a high rate of developing inflammation and increasing blood pressure. Studies have shown that older persons and adult men are the two most vulnerable groups to the effects of social alienation, in part because they tend to have fewer social contacts. 3 Additional Sources on the Topic Feelings of Social Alienation, 2011 Social Isolation From the Perspective of Health and Mortality, 2017 Consequences of Social Isolation for Older Adults, 2009 The Problem of Social Alienation in the Modern World The problem of alienation is one of the most pressing in modern socio-philosophical thought. Alienation as a process encompasses all the vital activity of a person, manifested in the inconsistency of the human nature and nature of social relations, in the loss of control over the products of oneââ¬â¢s own human activity and in disagreement with nature. The continued interest in the problem of alienation is intensifying in connection with the entry of society into the era of post-industrialism, in which more and more new forms of alienation appear, giving the problem a global character. People are concentrated in cities, and, it would seem, interpersonal communication, mutual understanding, and coherence of actions should be strengthened here. But the differentiation of social life is increasingly alienating people from each other, and as a result, interpersonal alienation increases. This is due to the fact that the difference in the well-being of different segments of the population is increasing many times, more and more often ââ¬Å"a well-fed man finds it difficult to understand a starving one.â⬠In addition, the accelerated pace of social life contributes to the growth of alienation, which is why people do not always keep up with social events. There is a feeling of disorder, uselessness, meaninglessness of existence in a huge, complex, rapidly changing the social organism. 3 Additional Sources on the Topic How Social Media Contributes to Alienation, 2013 Alienation in the 21st Century, 2012 Social Alienation in a Transitional Economy, 2006 Social Alienation Essay Example Despite the fact that social alienation is an extremely popular concept in modern psychology and sociology, the exact meaning of this term as well as the nature of the concept it defines still remains rather elusive ââ¬â different theories, schools of thought and disciplines give different, sometimes, completely disparate definitions. The fact that in this or that form the idea has been around for several centuries and underwent considerable changes in the process only adds to the confusion. In general, under social alienation, we understand separation, the estrangement of a person fromâ⬠¦ well, basically, from anything: from the society of his peers, from the outcomes and results of his decisions and actions, from his work and vocation, from his family, finally, from himself. Each case has its own peculiar features, which makes the entire issue incredibly complex ââ¬â so complex, in fact, that the term often looks to be too vague to actually mean anything. Different scientists make different classifications of alienation types, but one of the more popular ones is that of sociologist Melvin Seeman, who subdivided this condition into five subtypes: Powerlessness (feeling that oneââ¬â¢s actions have no effect on the outcome); Self-estrangement (alienation from oneself ââ¬â the person is unable to feel interested in anything, cannot find his place in the world); Meaninglessness (feeling that oneââ¬â¢s existence has no sense or meaning, inability to understand or care about oneââ¬â¢s condition); Social isolation (estrangement from society values and goals ââ¬â the person doesnââ¬â¢t understand them and often creates his own value system, sometimes in deep dissonance with that of society); Normlessness (feeling that social norms are meaningless or broken. In this case, the person may move towards the sociopathic perception of the world, believing that to achieve oneââ¬â¢s goals, one has to resort to socially disapproved actions). Of course, this classification is highly formal, and even these five types often overlap, especially in practical cases. However, they are supposed to do so ââ¬â the general idea is that social alienation is an all-pervasive condition that encompasses the entirety of a personââ¬â¢s existence, heavily influencing all aspects of his or her life. As a result, these types of alienation are more of different ways that one and the same condition shows itself rather than different conditions per se. Although modern society seems to talk about alienation and ways of battling it all the time, there is precious little we know about it, what it is caused by and how it develops. More or less the only thing that is to be said about it is that alienation can be caused by any way a person may be estranged from another human being, the world he lives in or himself, i.e., pretty much anything, from significant changes in working or living environment and divorce to mental illness or death of a loved one. The symptoms of alienation are as diverse and varied as its causes. Alienated people often feel helpless, depressed, oversleep or suffer from insomnia, show signs of chronic fatigue, low self-esteem, and lack of purpose, feel hopeless and meaningless. In other words, alienation shares a lot of symptoms of depression and is indeed closely connected to it. Sometimes alienation is even considered to be one of its symptoms, or a condition inherent to depression. Either way, alienation is much more than a simple feeling ââ¬â it is an all-pervading condition that heavily influences a personââ¬â¢s psychological and even physical health. If left unchecked, it may cause numerous ill effects, including long-term deterioration of the physical condition, lack of fulfillment, and further isolation of the person from society. How To Land A Full-Time Gig At PG by: Pearly Tan on March 11, 2019 | 0 Comments Comments 799 Views March 11, 2019Interns at Procter Gamble. Courtesy photoLike millions of other people across the country, Payton Lang used Procter and Gamble-owned products every day. From hair products to face lotion to her laundry detergent, Lang regularly used the products of the company sheââ¬â¢d soon be working for. After interning with Procter and Gamble in Fayetteville, Arkansas, this past summer, Lang performed well enough to secure a permanent position. ââ¬Å"Iââ¬â¢ve always known the brand, and had an interest in it,â⬠Lang says. ââ¬Å"But while I was in high school, I thought Iââ¬â¢d be interested in accounting since I liked math. I only discovered my interest in Marketing here at Wash U.â⬠At just 21, Lang was the chapter president of Gamma Phi Beta at Washington University in St. Louis Olin Business School, where she majored in Economics and Strategy. Graduating in three and a half years, Lang received an Omega Individual Award for her chapter leadership in 2017. While at the fair, Lang met with account executives from Procter and Gamble and found out about the internship position. Days after that, she sent an application with her resume and cover letter. From there, things moved fast. By October, she had been invited to take part in an on-campus assessment where she was tested on her math, reading, and comprehension skills, which she says was similar to taking the SATs. ââ¬Å"Itââ¬â¢s not something to really prepare for, though they gave us some sample questions to have an idea of what was coming,â⬠she recalls. By the end of October, Lang was on the phone for an intervie w with the company. She says that they asked her behavioral type questions over an hour and that the questions focused on the context-action-result process.Around early-November, the company flew Lang to Cincinnati to meet in person. ââ¬Å"Iââ¬â¢m involved in a lot of different organizations on campus that gave me a good level of experience,â⬠Lang says. ââ¬Å"In Cincinnati, we had dinner plans to meet current account executives and managers to learn about the environment and the role, listened to speakers, interviewed and explored the corporate offices. It was a great experience where they were not only assessing us to see if we were a fit, but encouraging us to ask questions and see if they were a fit for us.â⬠Just three weeks later, Lang was offered the internship. ââ¬Å"I was excited to go on my first actual internship that could go on to be a full-time job,â⬠she says. While at Procter and Gamble, Lang was assigned to the Walmart team, where she worked with a manager in the personal healthcare sector. The team dealt with brands including Vicks and Pepto Bismol and she went to work on marketing campaigns and merchandising plans. Towards the end of her summer, Lang says she experienced her most challenging week as two of the projects she was working on were finishing, and she had to make a presentation to the seniors. Though stressful, Lang says she learned to prepare early in order to leverage the resources in her team members and mentors. Lang could not only reach out to her manager for help, but she says the company also had a buddy system, where staff were matched with interns based on common interests or backgrounds, and theyââ¬â¢d help the interns with everyday questions.ââ¬Å"They have a wonderful culture with lots of informal mentorships, where everyone took time to know me and find out what I was interested in to help develop me,â⬠she says. ââ¬Å"My favorite class at Wash U was in management communication and I defin itely used it at PG. The real application helped me develop my communication skills even further, and itââ¬â¢s all about what people are looking for, and how they think.â⬠WHATââ¬â¢S NEXT?Lang was able to leverage her internship into a full-time position as a category development manager in the fabric care division for PG.During her last semester last fall, Lang spent time and resources developing and solidifying connections with her friends, faculty, and the community, as well as finish up her marketing major. And for relaxation, Lang says she completed a course called ââ¬Å"Women in Leadership,â⬠as well as a group fitness class. ââ¬Å"Itââ¬â¢s exciting to be part of the fight for more representation for women in business, and for women to be heard and valued at the table,â⬠she says. And from Lang to business students working on their careers, she says itââ¬â¢s important to define what success looks like to them before starting to look around. ââ¬Å"Th ink about what you want to see in your life, and your career goals. Mine is to be doing meaningful work with meaningful people,â⬠she says. ââ¬Å"Then use your resources, and be your authentic self. Those are the most important things.â⬠DONT MISS: HOW TO LAND A GIG AT BCG or HOW TO LAND A GIG AT GOLDMAN SACHS Page 1 of 11

Duck Dynastyôs Phil Robertson and His Interview and...
There is a fine line between expressing your personal opinion and verbally criticizing others. However, when it comes down to it, what was Phil Robertson, the ââ¬Å"dad of Duck Dynasty,â⬠really doing? ââ¬Å"My mission today is to go forth and tell people about why I follow Christ and also what the bible teaches, and part of the teaching is that women and men are meant to be together,â⬠he stated. Personally, I believe that Phil Robertson was being brutally honest and I see no issue with that. Arts Entertainment (AE) cannot punish him for his personal beliefs. Quite frankly, I think it was an unintelligent move on their part to ask a man of God, such as Phil, what his belief was on gay marriage. What else would you have expected him to say? ââ¬Å"I myself am a product of the 60s; I centered my life around sex, drugs and rock and roll until I hit rock bottom and accepted Jesus as my Savior,â⬠stated Robertson at one point in the interview. Regardless whether or not AE thought that his statements were derogatory, they certainly have many other hit TV shows with stars whose opinions differ from Philââ¬â¢s. AE was quick to jump on him and suspend him indefinitely, which was extremely unfair for him. It seems to me that if he said what they had wanted him to say, he would be fake. Television is 85% fake these days and I cannot wrap my head around the fact that someone is being judged for being honest about one of their own personal beliefs. The biggest outrage was his comments regarding
